An inveterate reader since childhood, and a hunter of lost books on second-hand bookstalls, Marco decided to devote himself to literature when he discovered and devoured Life of a Good-for-Nothing by Joseph von Eichendorff.

He began to haunt publishing circles, translating Novalis, Kleist, Dürrenmatt and Klaus Mann. Aged 21, he founded the publishing house Marcos y Marcos, together with Marco Franza. Following a period spent relaunching great works of the past, from Toole to Vian, Fante to Lem, today Marcos y Marcos is one of Italy’s most colourful and eclectic publishers, promoting talent of every age and origin.

Since the late nineties Marco has been running the business with Claudia Tarolo; together they launched the cultural association Letteratura rinnovabile, dedicated to promoting reading and culture in creative and original ways, with publishing courses, workshops and laboratories on writing, translation and creative copywriting.

In 2012 he co-edited Letti di notte, a book festival in Italy and beyond, and the following year Giro d’Italia in 80 librerie, a veritable relay race of cycling, culture and environment through the world’s most beautiful country.

He has been president of Lombardy AIE (Italian Publishers’ Association) since 2014.
