Marco Filippeschi

Marco is a certified expert in Industrial Physics, and studied Modern and Contemporary History on the degree course at the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy, University of Pisa.

He is listed on the special Register of the Lazio Order of Journalists and heads the online magazine of the Legautonomie association, “Governare il territorio”.

In 1992 he was one of the founders of the “L’Osservatorio” association, a Pisa group dedicated to combating illegal practices and organised crime.

From May 1995 to November 2001 he was Secretary of the Pisa branch of the PDS (democratic party of the left); he has been a member of the regional leadership of the party and coordinated the political force of L’Ulivo (the olive tree) in Pisa province. At the Turin party congress he was elected a member of the party’s national leadership.

He was elected Mayor of Pisa in the municipal elections on 13 and 14 April 2008.

He was the first President of the AC Pisa 1909 sports association, founded on 23 June 2009.

On 2 June 2012 he was honoured by president Giorgio Napolitano with the title of Commendatore in the Italian Order of Merit.

He was elected Mayor of Pisa for a second mandate on 26 and 27 May 2013, on the first round of voting.

He is a member of the Board of Directors of the association “Focus Europe. Laboratorio progettuale per l’integrazione europea”.

He represents the Municipality of Pisa in networks for European policies in favour of “Polis” and “Eurocities”. He has signed the European Union’s Covenant of Mayors for the use of renewable energy and energy efficiency.
