Artusi Remix

Viaggio nella cucina popolare italiana

Sat 10 22:00 - 00:00

With Artusi Remix, Donpasta aims to tell the story of Italian cooking in the new millennium and the changes it is undergoing, in a multimedia project that includes live cooking onstage, dramatic narrative, live music and video images. This is the essence of the new venture from Donpasta, “one of the most inventive food activists” according to the New York Times. In Arturi Remix, he focuses on the whole of Italian popular food legacy, in a concentration of symbolic representations and memories collected during his long journey around Italy.
“If you’ve got a problem…add oil” is the motto of Donpasta, poet-cook and wide-eyed ecologist.
Artusi Remix is his multimedia project, and it mixes cooking, music, popular lore and images, for an all-round show somewhere between contemporary theatre, the tales of an ancient storyteller and the misadventures of a clumsy chef.
All the senses are engaged: sight, taste, smell, touch, hearing. Every word in every line of text has a counter-melody that comes from the kitchen to inspire the music.
The soundtrack, strictly live, plays to the gas rings, and they respond in the same currency.

“Talking about a recipe means finding out what has changed in traditional cooking, in its geography and its testimony, but it’s also telling the story of those who are telling us about it”, claims the project’s creator and protagonist. “It means taking a snapshot not only of Italian food, but of Italy itself. This is because, through cooking, everything becomes the background canvas and the tool to construct a new identity for the city. Knowing what has been preserved, what is in the process of changing, what has been lost forever; understanding the emotional and sentimental traces of all these; confusion, finding an anchor in what has always been and experimenting with transforming it into something new.”
