This workshop focuses on the process leading to the production and customisation of projects and/or products for the health and social care sector, based on open-source designs.
The accessibility of digital fabrication technologies and information makes it not only possible, but advantageous to conceive products in such a way that they are extremely simple to customise, modify and self-assemble, especially in fields like medical assistance. This workshop with Wemake will provide hands-on experience of this as we try out a tactile stick which helps users to find their way.
One of the aims of the workshop is to contribute to international discussion about attributing value to DIY open-source devices. Recognition and incentives for the manufacture of diagnostic or healthcare products created by individuals yet meeting the needs of communities is included in European Union goals. To what extent can the bottom-up experience of Italian communities find a place in the Italian healthcare system?
