Marco Malvadi was born in Pisa, and lives in his home city.

A student of the Scuola Normale in Pisa and a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry at the University of Pisa, he debuted on the literary scene with the crime thriller La briscola in cinque, published by Sellerio. In 2008 he published Il gioco delle tre carte, followed in 2010 by Il re dei giochi. La carta più alta was released in 2012, and Il telefono senza fili in 2014.

The novels in the BarLume series feature the same principal characters: Massimo the barman, the old men who frequent the bar and who often talk in the local Pisa dialect (grandfather Ampelio, Aldo, Rimediotti and Del Tacca), Inspector Fusco and barmaid Tiziana.
Malvaldi has also published a thriller entitled Odore di chiuso, starring the real-life figure Pellegrino Artusi and therefore set in the late nineteenth century.
In October 2011 he published Scacco alla torre, which was launched at the Pisa Book Festival. The book is a walking guide to the author’s home town, Pisa.
In late October 2012, Sellerio published a new Malvadi thriller entitled Milioni di milioni, set in the fictional Tuscan town of Montesodi Marittimo. The book launch took place at the Niccolini-Palli High School in Livorno.
In September 2013, Sellerio published the novel Argento vivo, whose plot revolves around a double theft: a silver-coloured Peugeot 206 and a laptop of the same colour; and a pair of couples – Paola and Giacomo, Letizia and Leonardo – whose lives alternately intertwine and separate.
Marco Malvadi was the winner of the La Tore – Isola d’Elba literary prize in July 2013.
